Acro Yoga is a mixture of yoga, acrobatics and thai massage techniques. These disciplines create a practice that develops trust, play and a sense of community.

Jenny Sauer-Klein and Jason Nemer co-founded the practice in 2003.
AcroYoga blends the wisdom of yoga, the dynamic power of acrobatics, and the loving kindness of healing arts.

Acro YogaThe trust element is developed with the group working together, normally with 3 key players.

  • The Base provides the strength, support and stability for the flyer
  • The Flyer makes the yoga poses balanced on the base moving with respect to their base
  • The Spotter is the eyes and ears for the base and flyer providing physical support where needed

 

Acro yoga may not initially appeal to everyone but in the current climate of our isolated lifestyles it’s a crucial way for people to get together and support each other with a common aim.  The balancing and supporting roles is a great way to gain body awareness and develop strength and flexibility not only physically but mentally as you negotiate the poses and balances.  It’s also a lot of fun.
